NEAFS SPEAKHIRE Partnership
There is a pressing need for Spanish-speaking Champions.
WHAT IS SPEAKHIRE?
SPEAKHIRE is a non-profit organization and its mission is to develop the social and cultural capital of youth from immigrant backgrounds to become future leaders in the workforce.
WHY SPEAKHIRE?
SPEAKHIRE ensures diverse individuals get a fair chance of pursuing colleges and careers of their choice. We envision a future workforce with more professionals of color of all backgrounds in positions of power across a variety of careers.
HOW DOES SPEAKHIRE ACCOMPLISH THIS?
They accomplish this through virtual mentoring programs that connect immigrant youth to career professions they call Champions. Two of those programs are Seminars ad Foundational Year.
WHAT IS A SPEAKHIRE SEMINAR?
SPEAKHIRE Seminars - SPEAKHIRE Seminars, also called SPEAKHIRE Skills Seminars, are 45 minute to 1 hour long presentations by a professional who applies to be a Career Pathways Champion on professional development topics. Each presentation reaches 20 - 30 students, and also presents the school to career pathway journey of the professional.

The Champion presents their career pathway from childhood until now, a career skill, and how they use that skill in their career. SPEAKHIRE provides a template presentation that Champions can add to and build upon.

The time commitment for Seminars is the following:
-
15 minute application
-
45 minute screening call
-
2 hour Onboarding and Orientation training
-
1-2 hours to complete a draft presentation
-
15-30 minute meeting to go over presentation with SPEAKHIRE staff
-
If they are available for a Seminar - 45 minutes to present Seminar
Once a Champion has completed on Seminar, they can skip the previous steps and go right to presenting their next Seminar!

Seminars run throughout the academic year - from September through June.

Partner schools let SPEAKHIRE know what dates and times work best for their students. SPEAKHIRE then finds Champions that are available at those times.

Champions have no minimum requirements for the number of Seminars they must participate in.
WHAT IS A SPEAKHIRE FOUNDATIONAL YEAR?
SPEAKHIRE Foundational Year is virtual career coaching for young people who get to match with multiple professionals in their careers of interest and learn about different skills necessary in those careers. Each match between professionals and young people is called an Internship Round, and consists of nine 45-minute virtual sessions.

The Foundational Year Program is where Champions are matched to a group of 2-4 young people for mentoring and career skills development. The groups are matched based on the careers the young people are interested in or based on career exploration to help them learn more about the options available to them.

Champions are given a guide to help them plan meetings and figure out how to teach career skills to their groups.

The Champion and young people meet for 45 minutes, once a week, for a total of 9 weeks. This 9 week period i referred to as a round.
WHY BECOME A CHAMPION?
If you're looking for an opportunity to empower the next generation of leaders, join SPEAKHIRE as a Career Pathways Champion. Deliver a Seminar about a career skill, coach a young person through the Foundational Year, or share your school to career pathway through Pathways Days or SPEAKHIRE Series. As a Champion, you help young people explore careers and learn early career skills, supporting them as they pursue a career pathway, preparing them for future careers, and empowering them toward life success.
