Minimum Qualifications
Equivalent to graduation from college with a major in one of the physical or biological sciences, including the equivalent of eight semester hours of general chemistry and three semester hours of quantitative analysis. Approved majors include chemistry, biochemistry, biology, physics, geology, mineralogy, petrology, chemical engineering, forensic science, pharmacology, microbiology, molecular biology, biological sciences, immunology, entomology and criminalistics. Registered seniors, and graduates who do not possess the 3 semester hours of quantitative analysis, will be admitted to the examination, but all requirements must be fulfilled before appointment. If you meet the minimum qualifications, apply to be included in the next civil service exam.

New Hampshire State Police Forensic Laboratory
Assistant Lab Director – Toxicology Group
Salary: $70,073.12 - $96,578.56

Accountabilities
Administers scientific services in the area of chemistry and toxicology with responsibility for managing various levels and scientific specialties of criminalists assigned to the Toxicology Group of the Forensic Laboratory, planning and policy development, and providing technical consultation to law enforcement, medical examiners, and legal counsels. Investigates and evaluates scientific methodologies to improve existing laboratory methods. Serves as an expert witness during court proceedings regarding the analyses of forensic samples and the interpretation of results.

Education
Master’s degree from a recognized college or university with major study in the chemical sciences, medical technology, toxicology, biological sciences, or closely related laboratory science. Doctorate degree preferred.

Experience
Seven years experience in a chemical, clinical or forensic science laboratory, with four years in a supervisory or administrative level position. Certification in chemistry or toxicology by an approved accrediting agency may substitute for one of the required years of experience. Additional years of approved education may substitute on a one for one basis for the experience required for this classification.

Forensic Scientist with emphasis on Questioned Document capability
Location: Pittsburgh, PA


Direction and coordination of all activities within the Forensic Science Division of a high technology analytical instrument company, including the development, validation, and organization of forensic examinations utilizing hyperspectral and Raman imaging technologies. Should possess experience in forensic analysis of questioned documents, trace evidence, blood splatter, latent fingerprints and other forensic disciplines. Will be required to analyze forensic evidence submitted by law enforcement agencies and provide testimony in legal proceedings when necessary. Must maintain current awareness involving analytical technology procedures and legal decisions involving all forensic evidence and digital technology. Technical support to experienced sales and marketing staff. Some travel required.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree in a natural science with strong analytical science background; M.S. degree in Forensic Science or related field preferred; minimum of five years of work experience in a forensic laboratory desired; Membership in forensic associations, certifications, and specialized training in the area of fingerprint examination or questioned document examination preferred. Must have the ability to understand the principles and technology related to novel forensic applications with emphasis on questioned documents or fingerprints; research and evaluate spectroscopic and imaging methods and techniques; write technical papers for peer reviewed publication; present effectively and compellingly to large and small audiences; coordinate and develop working relationships with law enforcement agencies.

Forensic Technologist – Trace Evidence Section
Starting annual salary: $42,428

Qualifications include graduation from an accredited 4-year college with a major in chemistry, criminalistics, biochemistry, biology or a related field and two years of laboratory experience. A Master’s degree in criminalistics, chemistry, biochemistry or physics may be substituted for only one year of the required experience. Forensic Scientist 2 – Trace Evidence

General Responsibilities
This position is responsible for the receipt, evaluation, and processing of trace evidence submitted from local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. The successful applicant will have experience using a Polarizing Light Microscope, Stereomicroscope, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Gas Chromatogram (GC). This position will require meticulous attention to detail, strict adherence to standard operating procedures, and the ability to troubleshoot problems. The major position responsibilities include: evidence control, evidence evaluation, sample extraction, sample comparison, and data analysis. Performance checks and routine maintenance on scientific instrumentation must also be performed.

Minimum Requirements
Bachelors degree in a physical science (such as Chemistry, Biology, or Physics), and at least two years of experience analyzing trace evidence in a Forensic Science Laboratory. The applicant must have testified in a court of law as an expert witness in trace evidence analysis. Preferred Qualifications: Trained in all areas of trace evidence including paint, fibers, glass, hair, tape, physical matches, building materials, wood, soil, headlamps, impression evidence, fire debris, and chemical testing. Experience with a variety of chemistry techniques/instruments. Experience with a variety of standard computer software; word processing, spreadsheets, etc. Certified by the American Board of Criminalistics.

The Criminalistics Section of the New York City Police Department’s Police Laboratory is responsible for examining all the forensic evidence, especially hairs, fibers, and materials that come to the lab as a result of arrests, shootings, or other incidents. The New York City Police Department (“NYPD”) is conducting a solicitation for Proposals in order to obtain an appropriately qualified vendor to serve as Technical Leader for the Criminalistics Section of the Police Lab, provide Forensic Training in the areas of hairs, fibers, and materials, to establish and run a Forensic Training Program, and to testify in Court in both Criminal and in Civil cases.
